I´ve had a wonderful and very relaxed start to the weekend. Well, if relaxing means having a tidy floral studio aaand bedroom, then yes. Heh. I had a very productive day yesterday, and I felt good. Happy! I actually spent the whole evening by myself, just recharging. I did feel a little bit guilty for not joining the others, but I really needed a little timeout. If youré a introvert like me, you will understand I´m sure.
Today have been good as well. I started of with some research and studies for work (meaning watching a lot´s of how-to video´s on various subjects). Love doing this, especially if it can make me work better. Then I actually did a sweaty workout, which felt nice.
The evening is not set in stone yet, but I think I´m going to watch a movie with Stephanie and Philip. Have a lovely evening everyone.
Oh, by the way. Make sure to follow me on Instagram, at @mariewiik1 to see more updates on my everyday life.
We had a lovely party last night, which I feel incredibly blessed about. Living in a community of people has had its perks during this pandemic. I served cocktails from the cocktail corner, we did whiskey sour, cucumber g&t´s and an interesting espresso martini. There was canapes, turkey for the normal people and veggies for me. Lot´s of Champagne too, which we all felt today. Hah. We played a murder and mystery game during dinner (I was the killer!), and we celebrated the New Year with lots of cheers and hugs. For a moment, life seemed almost normal.
Right, It´s 01.57am and the New Year awaits, well, bedtime first though. Oh, and I´m very pleased to tell you that I´ve taken down all the Christmas decorations in my studio. Off it goes, out with the old and in with the new. Time for a new chapter!
I wish you all a magical New Year, may it bring us all what we want and long for. My heart goes out to each and one of you.
Time went by so quickly today, I´ve been writing Christmas cards and making garlands for the adventcalendar + I cooked dinner. I feel like I´ve done a lot today, but not necessarily what I wanted to achieve. Hah. I am sure a few of you can relate? Especially during these days.
from earlier today. I prefer to make garlands from scratch (the proper floristry way hehe), but since Stephanie already have plastic ones with lights on, I´ve freshed up these ones by attaching real greenery to them. Philip brought yummy Christmas tea.
we had a little party last night celebrating Stephanies 100K, which was great fun. I feel so lucky to live in a community here at Lalande where we can still dress up for a party and laugh together. I borrowed this beautiful dress from Stephanie. Love her wardrobe
Hope youré all well? The house is slowly changing these days, some are leaving while others are arriving. Looking forward to celebrating Christmas here and to also see old Lalanders again. We´re doing Secret Santa!!
I must say, I like these scheduled days where I know what I´m doing, it gives me so much peace of mind. So, what´s happening? I burned my hand earlier by trying to microwave my oat milk. There is that. Otherwise, everything is pretty peaceful. My hair is growing longer, which pleases me greatly. I´ve been wanting my long and thick hair back for years, now it´s finally growing.!! Although, it may have something to do with the B12 I´m taking (as well as not being silly and cutting it myself).
Things are looking much better in the studio these days, it´s so lovely how moving some furniture around can change the atmosphere in a room. I think it´s so important to feel comfortable and inspired by your surroundings and what better time to make that happened then right now?
This week will be peaceful but fun (It´s so quiet here, but there will be friends coming for Christmas so I´m enjoying this semi quiet time).. I´m doing some more filming for my IGTV-videos for with marie, then I´m filming another video with Stephanie for her advent calendar vlog. I think we´re also having some parties, so all in all, a good few days coming up. Oh, and Cheryl have sent me the first draft of my website, I´m going to review it shortly so that we can get on with the first alterations. So exciting.
Hello lovelies! It´s time for a new blog post. If you follow me on Instagram (mariewiik1), you will know that I have decided to get back to blogging again. Yay!.. So, every Thursday I´ll write a blog post. I hope to write more in the future, but I´ll start easy and see how I go.
Anyway, how are you? Some people say that blogging belongs to the past, but I must disagree. I really love reading blogs and I have a few favourites that I visit almost every day. Mabey it´s a generation thing. I really like following other people´s life´s and getting a special insight in what they are up to and what their life is like. I´ve been following a few Scandinavian bloggers for almost 10 years and some of us are at the same age and I really like that.
Well, enough about that. I´m currently sitting in my studio and I look like an eskimo. I have blankets, scarfs and a warm hat on. The oil heater is on and I´ve lit a scented candle. I really love my studio space and I don´t mind the cold. I feel so free and peaceful here. I can´t believe I´ve been at Lalande for 4 months already. Time goes by so fast.
Workwise, everything is going in the right direction, slowly but steady. I´m constantly learning new skills while I continue to create florals, videos and taking photos. Everything I earn goes back to investing in equipment or flowers. There is hardly any money for my personal life, but hay, we´re in a lockdown, hehe. Becoming self-employed this year have been such an emotional rollercoaster but I wouldn´t want it any other way. I am so happy I quit my job and came to France.
Right, I´m going to film and upload another video for @withmariewiik and I´m also cooking tonight. I think I´m making chili or pita. Not sure yet. Anyho, have a lovely weekend xx
Ps: If youré new to my blog and Instagram and you have some questions, check out my previous Q&A´s on my Instagram. I´ve answered a lot of questions there. Link here
The first thing you should know is that I don’t follow recipes. I just cook food. I rarely measure what I need, I just “dash in” ingredients until It tastes good. If you want super specific recipes I won’t be your best recipe source, however, I´m told Nic´s lovely Marie is thinking of creating a food-inspired Instagram account. How exciting is that! Let’s follow when she does.
Anyhow, I´ll finally spill the beans on my orgasmic figs. The dish is perfect as a starter but also for dessert. I picked almost everything from the kitchen garden at Lalande when I made this dish.
I´m a big believer in using what you have. In old Norwegian tongue, we say “Man tar det man haver”. I often find myself browsing the internet for food inspiration but I rarely follow the recipe. I like to do things my way, I like to improvise and besides how often does it happened that you actually have all the ingredients? Anyhow, let’s start.
Here is what you will need per person:
1 x fig
3-4 x slices of a green apple, you can also use peaches
a little chunk of blue cheese, or any cheese you have in the fridge. However, the blue cheese is part of what gives out the “orgasmic” flavour
A handful of mint leaves
1-3 pieces of blackberries or raspberries
Then you will need brown sugar, salted butter and oil.
Here is what you do:
1. start off with gently cutting your mint leaves. Some smaller pieces, some bigger. Add all the mint into a bowl. Then add a few clunks of olive oil and mix it up. I love when the oil starts to get green in colour
2. get a frying pan and turn on to medium heat. Add too much butter because life is short. Then add brown sugar
3. slice your figs in half and add them into your frying pan when the sugar has melted with the butter. Gently caramelise the figs. You want them to be golden and glittery. Not brown and soggy
4. Add your slices of apples into the frying pan last minute or so. I love when the apple slices have a thin layer of sugar on them
Right. Let´s plate the food – the fun part.
Lift the caramelised figs gently with a helpful spoon and place two figs next to each other onto the plate. Then layer the sliced apples somehow next to each other, it needs to look sensual…. Be creative. Then, over to the mint “sauce”, use a spoon and drip the sauce around the plate but also a little on the figs and apples. Make sure you get some of those chunks of mint onto the plate as well. Add them gently around. However, more is not always more. Next up is the blue cheese that you obviously have taken out of the fridge by now. Break up small pieces of the cheese and add them to the centre. Not too far away from each other. Right. Finish of by adding a few blackberries for an extra splash of colour as well as a contrast to the sweet flavours.
