Heavens, this Christmas has gone so fast and now its all about to end. However, I did manage to get some time to drink mulled wine and watch the Hobbit films. I always watch the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and Harry Potter around Christmas time. It´s become my own little tradition which I plan to inforce on my future children too. Hehe. I have spent the last couple of days in Norwich, just relaxing with Stacey and Ryan, which was very heartwarming. It´s been so nice to spend time with family when I couldn’t make it home for Christmas this year.
I hope you had a lovely Christmas so far? I had brunch with Stacey at the Ivy in Norwich, which was a great experience. I loved the chic interior and will be back. Later on, we went for a small browse through the city center before we spent the rest of the afternoon at their house.
Love a warm jumper these days, wish I could wear them all the time
My bed. Waiting for a curtain rail to arrive so that I can get my curtains up
My Grandmother sent me this warm and soft PJ as a Christmas gift. I love it and had to wear it straight away, so soft and pretty
I´m going to bed early so that I can actually get out for a run before work. I need to sweat a little. Enjoy your Christmas.
I guess a lot of you have already seen our Christmas episode on tv, however, I just have to show you the Christmas wreath I made for the big gate. I had some lovely help from Mattia, we harvested everything from the garden. We dried leaves and sprayed them in gold. Then the whole wreath was wrapped with fairy lights. It looked very dreamy, as it should when hanging in front of a Chateau.
I´m popping back to Lalande in a week or so to see Stephanie again but to also to see Mike and Claude too. Almost 8 months have passed since Mike talked about having his birthday weekend here at Lalande. Now the time has finally come and I can’t wait to play a part in the festivities. I might also have time to do a new Christmas wreath! Wouldnt that be amazing??
Here are last years Christmas wreath:
Chateau de la Lande
Can´t wait to go back!
Are you going to make a Christmas wreath this year?
It´s Christmas and there is no escaping it. Time goes so quickly, can´t believe I have to start feeling guilty about Christmas presents already. I always feel guilty because there is so many who deserves some love and attention, a letter, a small gift, a big gift, a phone call or better, just a visit.
Anyways, my room is coming along now, just waiting for the floor to dry. After the weekend I´m finally able to move in. Can´t wait because I´m currently sleeping in the lounge downstairs. Hehe. I love the colour on the wall, it turned out much better than expected. I bought this wooden basket and mirror in a charity shop the other day. It´s so fun to decorate a new space.
Just had two days off, which was really nice. I painted some first coats but I also finished a few Netflix series. Balance, balance.
The rest of the week will just consist of work, which is nice. Next week I´m going to Norwich to see friends and do some Christmas shopping. Fun times ahead.
Finally, the time has come to show you all the «behind the scenes» on the Stable project. I absolutely loved every bit of this transformation. Stephanie managed to create a beautiful space for creativity and inspiration. One of the things I adore with Steph is her ability to envision absolutely anything. It wasn’t easy for me to picture a beautifully decorated art studio by looking at a dirty old stable filled with trash. Well done Steph.
Here are some pictures of the transformation:
Grant built a bookshelf by using timber from one of the outbuildings
The studio after clearing all the rubbish and cleaning the floor with a pressure hose
One of the heaviest jobs was to move these stable dividers. We wouldnt have done it without the great M-Team, consisting of Grant, Ben, Percy, Ian and Gerry. Anything is possible when having an Aussie, Kiwi, South-African and Scott(man) on board.
I spray painted the walls which were very therapeutic
We also painted all the doors
We brought down all the art books from the attic, they were Stephanies fathers books which made the Studio feel very special
Grant made this cupboard to cover up the pipes on the wall, using only bits and pieces from the outbuildings.
From the art retreat…
I havent actually seen the last episodes since I´m in Norway visiting family. Did anyone see me naked on tv?? 🙈 Hehe
It feels amazing to be back in Norway. I’ve only been here for 1 day, but time has gone by so quickly. So many to see and so little time.
I´m staying here until Friday and then I´m going to my Mom and her husband for the weekend. I´m really looking forward to seeing them all and to see their new house. I believe there are gingerbread houses involved too.
Sture is watching the birds.. my uncle and aunties dog. Cutest thing ever
Tomorrow I’m seeing my amazing friend Tiril again. She has come all the way from Lofoten and I can’t wait to see here. I’m taking her to my grandparents for lunch and then we’re going to spend the rest of the day catching up. There will be wine.
I actually have 2 days off now, wow, how did that happen? Well, I’m making sure to enjoy them as much as possible. The workers for the bathroom is in our house today, so that means no bathroom for a week. Yes, I will be brushing my teeth in the kitchen sink from now on. All fun. However, I am looking forward to having a newly done bathroom, especially since we´re also adding a shower. Yay.
I’m currently just waiting for the washing to finish and then I will go out for a run. The weather is cold but pretty, should be fun.
Sourdough meringue from the kitchen
Gillian’s room at the moment. She started on the floor yesterday, so It won’t be long before the painting goes on the wall. It’s getting exciting.
I’m feeling much better now, much happier than last week. I talked to my friend Tiril for hours on the phone the other night and that did wonders. I’m seeing her when I go to Norway next week. Can’t wait.
Feel like I´ve been offline for a little while now. The days go by so quickly, which is good. Only 2 weeks until I´m back in Norway for a week! (yay). Work is going well, I really really enjoy the job and the team. I want to work all the time and I want to know everything. Don´t know why. Is it a Confidence-thing? Or is it my personality?
I´m not as sad as I look. It´s just been a very busy and hectic month. Living in a renovation project will definetly challenge your mental state. Combine this with training and induction days + getting a virus, and you can easily feel a little overwhelmed. However, I feel humble and greatful for everything. Having that said, I´m looking forward to getting our heating installed. Haha
Not much on my mind today, or maybe I have, I just don´t know what to say, or how to say it.
I´m alive so don´t worry too much about the epic silence in here. Haha. I´ve been with my new job for a week now and I love it. Lots to learn of course, but it’s coming together. I can´t believe I´ve been here a month already. It´s gone so quickly.! Yesterday, I worked in the kitchen, which was fantastic. I believe it´s so important to understand every aspect of a buisness if you want to run it well.
Other than working I went to a memorable work party on Monday. It was the first one for the whole group. Lots of mingling and too much wine. I don´t drink much these days so it will be a while to next time.
As you all might know, I became a vegetarian in February this year because I wanted to eat healthier. Become healthier. I´m confident to say that I have achieved that goal. Slowly but surely I have taken the step to eat cleaner, filling my meals with mostly vegetables, salads, nuts, grains, healthy oils, plant-based products, fruits, berries etc.. However, If I want something I will eat it. I don´t restrict myself in any way. I eat the way I do because I love it. I also run 3-4 times a week. I usually go every second day even if it´s just for 20-30 minutes. I love the way my body has become stronger. More empowered. More proud. Slimmer. More confident. Happier.
At home, things are happening slowly. My room is still not done. The floors and the painting are still on hold, but hopefully, we will get to it soon. I really hope that I get into a proper routine soon. I don’t like not writing here, it´ts just been a little busy in my head lately. My camera is misbehaving and my bank account is down to zero. Haha. It´s that type of fun xx
It´s so nice to see that you are still popping in here while it´s been quiet from me. I´ve just been enjoying my new life her in Bury. The weekend has been incredibly chilled but lovely. Gillian and I have done work in the house. Yesterday, we finished the sanding in my room and we also managed to paint the mist coat. It feels good to see the progress of our work. Next up is preparing the floor, sanding it and then painting the wall, woodwork and ceiling. Other than working I´ve also done some preps for my new job. Lots of forms to sign and pages to read. I love being prepaired so this last week have done wonders for my ego.
The week will be fairly interesting, I´m getting started in my new job. So eager to start! Painting my room (yay). I´m also going to Norwich to sort out my application for a National Insurance number. I love Norwich, so I´ll try to make the most out of the day. Maybe I will vistit a few favourite places.. Mine are the bicycle shop and the Rabbit. Do you have a favourite place in Norwich?
I´m slowly settling in. This weekend was chilled but also fun. Gillian and I went to this massive car boot sale yesterday. Apparently, this event only happens twice a year, in May and September. The event was arranged at the Melford hall. Some good bargains, but I must say that France is better. Hehe. Much cheaper. Well, anyways. I got some very random things, like linen bedding and a lampshade.. Here are some pictures from our day:
Gillian took me to the little village of Lavenham. A cute and historic little place, a must-go if you’re nearby. We had a coffee and lovely talk in the backyard of one of the tearooms.
My latest food obsession, a big salad with spinach, pickled cabbage, almonds, beets hummus, olives ++. Yummy.
This week will be an exciting week. Gillian and I are going to focus on getting some work done on the house. I´m on sanding-duty all week. Hehe. Feels good to get this done before starting my new job next week. Oh, and the wifi-people arrives on Wednesday, along with a second-hand pink sofa. I´m thinking it´s time for Netflix… Recommendations are welcomed. Nothing scary, please.
Bury-life is pretty good so far and I´m just spending my time settling in. I really like it here. I´ve been doing all sorts of things today, like opening a bank account and getting a library card. Haha. The job hunt is still ongoing but that’s fine. I want to take my time so that I´m sure to find something that I will enjoy doing. Other then appointments and errands I´ve also been stripping wallpaper from the lounge. Gillian has done most of the job, but we needed to do some last bits before the workers come tomorrow. They are sanding the walls and putting up boards/planks in my bedroom ceiling.
I´m so grateful to be able to stay with Gillian, but also to help her with the renovations. I definitely want to do this myself one day, so learning different skills are a real bonus!
I´m spending the rest of the evening writing and reading a new book, I rented Lion by Saroo Brierley. Heard the movie was good. Have you read it? Tomorrow awaits more job-hunting and a Tinder date. Yes, I know. I was just looking and now I´m suddenly meeting up with someone. I´m not sure how I feel about it but I think it´s good to meet new people. Hehe.
Wish me luck,
(Ps: I haven´t forgotten about my post about being a vegeterian, I´ve just been so busy lately)
I´m finally here. I´m so incredibly happy and grateful for my new start here in Bury. I already have a few ideas for new blog posts so stay tuned. I can´t wait to show you my life here. I thought I could start with my bedroom first. It´s a beautiful room with lots of light. The walls have just been plastered and I actually like it as it is now. The ceiling is up next and then the walls have to be painted. We´re thinking maybe a light grey-blue or a soft pinkish coral colour. Gillian bought me a beautiful bed from a stately home in Norwich. The mattress arrives today, yay! I`m planning to weed out the front garden while I wait for the delivery. That way we get a slightly nicer front house and I won´t miss the delivery people. Gillian is working the entire day and won’t be back before the evening.
I absolutely love the fireplace, it´s covered with floral carvings which give the room a feminine feel. The mirror is bought in a charity shop for 8 pounds (bargain!).
Some gifts from Lydia and Anne. Sparkling wine from Alsace (one of my all-time favourite wine areas), beeswax candles and dried sage. Apparently, you can use it to «cleanse» your new home, so I`ll do that today. It´s supposed to be stress-relieving too. I found this interesting article about burning sage, you can take a look at it here.
Right, I have to continue writing some job applications. Hope you have a good day.
Our little peahen has been sick this week. It all started with spotting her lying on the grass and not moving. We discovered that she couldn’t move, and we immediately thought that she must have been hit by a car. It turned out that she has been suffering from a heatstroke. We took her to the vet where they managed to cool her down. Other than that they weren´t able to do much. Her legs seem to be paralysed too. We´re hoping she will recover but the prognoses all say that these birds won’t make it when they have reached to this point. We have been giving her water and a special glucose drink to help her. Cole told us today that he had seen her moving one of her legs earlier. That made us all happy and we´re now feeling a little bit more hopeful. She has also started eating, which is a good sign.
Other than that the Lalanders are busy with the workshops this week. They are leaving on Saturday, the same day that another workshop starts. A bigger one with more people. It will be a very interesting and busy week.
I´m so happy these days, and present in everything that’s happening. All my focus goes to our Lalande life at the moment, and I love that. I just have 1 month left here before I´m flying to Stansted, where Gillian will pick me up and take me to Suffolk. Yay! The last week and a half have been time-consuming. Lots of preparations, cleaning, planning and so on. Last night we had a wedding who turned out to be more magical then I expected it to be. The attention to detail was utterly perfect and It made me want to work more with weddings in the future. Fingers crossed.
Been busy in the floristry studio
I feel like everything is going the way I want it to. I´m healthier then I´ve ever been before and that makes me so proud. I´ve been a vegeterian for half a year now and I couldn´t be happier. My weekly runs are getting better and better. I can run without music and just get lost in my thoughts, but I can also run with a good podcast. Love both. I´ve also noticed that my emotions are more in harmony after I started doing meditation in the mornings. I always start with thinking about what I´m grateful for and that gives me so much meaning to my everyday life. I also visualize my goals and my future plans as I´ve already achieved them. The mindset makes me so focused and excited to go out and take action. My inspiration to start meditating comes from a podcast I listened to recentley, featuring Dr Joe Dispenza. He is a neuroscientist who thinks that everyone can heal their body through your mind. I find the theory incredibly fascinating. You can check his website out here.
From last night´s party. During the day the sun was really warm and I managed to get a mild sunburn. You should see my ridiculous tan, I´m super tanned from the waist and up, and pale white from the bottom and down. Haha! Towards the night the air got cold and we all had to put on extra clothes. Reminded me of those Norwegian summer nights in my childhood.
Time goes so quickly here, we´re in the middle of the summer season. Crazy. The musical workshops are around the corner, and I´m kind of looking forward to it. Lots of new faces, music playing all day, prepping and serving food. Good times a head.
Today was a busy but great day, and I just got to sit down for a little break. We´re having a party in the stables tonight, friends and family have arrived for the weekend. I´m afraid it´s a bit of a secret, but I can promise that you will see some of it on TV! Hehe..
Made this today, just a quick and easy flower arrangment. Love the simplicity of the white mixed with different greens. I will show you more pictures later (well, as much as I can I guess)
I just wanted to say hello, hope you’re having a great weekend. I should get back to the party!
I´ve just started repainting Des Oiseaux (one of the B&B-bedrooms) and I´m hoping to finish within a few days. I´m only doing the wooden frames and the doors, but it´s much needed. Looking forward to seeing the finished results. There is always something that needs doing around here. So, what else? Well, we still have the previous owners here with all of their guests. They leave tomorrow, and I´m looking forward to moving back to my room again. I don´t really mind being in the attic, but I would love to not have to do an old fashioned wash every day (#luxuryproblems). There is no shower up her you see, only a classic bathtube.
Our handy Australian workawayer is coming on Monday, and it seems like the list of work for him is just getting longer and longer. I´m so thankful for having Grant here for an entire month, I only hope that he can see through the workload and enjoy our Lalande life too.. Haha! Having that said I hope he is good with fixing lawnmowers. The vegetable garden is starting to look like a secret garden from another time, I bet it´s become a snake paradise too..
Have a lovley evening guys!
Får håpe sommeren her varer en stund.
We have some warm days coming up, and I´m over the moon excited about starting June with 27 degrees on Saturday!! I´m not entirely sure if everyone is aware of my excitement for this upcoming weather. For someone who spent the last couple of summers in a cold and windy fishing village in Lofoten (North of Norway), this feels like a all-inclusive holiday to the Maldives. I´m going to be the pale looking Norwegian in the garden this weekend. You are here by warned.
Nic and Marie´s family is still at Lalande, but they are sadly leaving tomorrow. On Wednesday, Stephanie, Michael and the previous owners of the Chateau is coming. Yaay! The whole Chateau is hired out for the weekend so the three of us will have to make camp in the attic. Next week will be busier, we have new B&B bookings and a handful of musicians staying for a week. We also have a new workawayer coming all the way from Australia. His name is Grant, and he is a handyman and a farmer. We are very much looking forward to having him with us this month! 🙂
Here are a few pictures of Lalande today,
Lots of Iris in the garden now
We have B&B guests coming tomorrow
My favourite view from the chateau, it´s from one of the bedrooms in the attic.
I will spend the rest of the evening working on my new IGTV video. I´ve made another hand-tied bouquet from the garden, and I will post it on my Instagramas soon as it´s ready.
The chateau is filled with flowers and silence this afternoon, and I believe the Lalanders are happy with a relaxed Thursday. The last couple of days have been hectic, to say the least, but in the right way. We have been doing various renovation work while also having the loveliest B&B-guests dining with us. Oh, and did I mention the camera crew who´ve been following us around for the last couple of days? I´m afraid I can´t tell you anything specific, but I do hope you all will be watching when the episodes come out.
SALAD FROM THE GARDEN
I absolutely love that we can go out to the greenhouse and get vegetables for our dinners. I made a feisty salad for one of the dinners, lettuce and radish from the greenhouse. Then red onions, garlic, parsley, coriander, squash, peppers and loads of oranges. The dressing was a classic honey and mustard combo. So yummy.
LOVE MY NEW ROBE
While we were filming, I had to drop off Mike and Pauline (two of our B&B guests) to their private aeroplane. The couple lives in the middle of the UK and was on holiday, visiting France. They are on a round trip, visiting a few of the chateaus in the series (Escape to the Chateau DIY). Seems like a dream to be able to fly around wherever you like. You can watch their goodbye on my Instagram story, click here.
We´ve been eating in the entrance hall for the last couple of days, the room fits more people than our kitchen table. I love the white open space, and especially the window view from both sides.
Flowers from the garden, love the purple palettes from the iris and lilac
Roses from the garden, they smell so heavenly
Things are finally getting back to normal here, filming days have their way of turning things upside down. Haha! The next couple of weeks we are busy with new guests, and a few whole rentals. We have a few workawayers leaving and also some new coming. June and July will be more hectic, we have lots of bookings while also having our workshops in July. There are also a few weddings here too, I really hope that I get to do some bridal flowers. Haha. The joys I get from living in this house is a true blessing.

Min lunsj i dag!
Hehe!
David´s glutenfree chocolate cake with peanut cream
Hey, all you lovely people
Hope your all having some sunny and warm spring weather. Lalande is covered in beautiful and bloomy scenery at the moment. It´s so beautiful, so peaceful. Just gorgeous basically. I don´t mean to brag, but spring is finally at Lalande and I Iove it.
It´s been a few busy days at the chateau since the Easter party. All the party guests have left, though some friends are returning next week. So much is happening, especially with the filming next week. I really wish I could tell you all!
Here are some pictures from the last couple of days:
From today: we had the previous owners and a B&B guest for breakfast in the kitchen. The previous owners are here for a few days. They are renting the whole chateau later this month.
We have a new workawayer, Maxim, from Russia. He is an extraordinary artist and painter. Right now he is painting this bed for us. It´s going to look so stunning when finished.
Went for a good run yesterday and I can really feel that my body is improving. Good feeling.
Right. I´m a busy bee these days. I need to go to Aigurande to do some shopping now. I´m cooking for guests on Friday, the starter will be a salad from the garden with beet hummus. For the main course, I´m doing barbeque skewers (both meat and vegetarian) served coucous, yoghurt and baked potatoes. Dessert will be a serving tart with caramelised pears. Yummy.
Spennende helg i vente.
It´s been a few busy days here at Lalande, but we are finally back to normal. Stephanie and I have finally started sharing a calendar (my biggest joy this month), and there are busy times ahead. We are getting more and more bookings, and it´s all a bit overwhelming, but in the right way.
I went on a little flower hunt this afternoon, I really wanted some flowers for my self this time. Flowers for my birthday! YAY! My birthday is tomorrow, and it´s my 28th! I feel slightly frightened about getting closer to 30, but also incredibly grateful too. I love getting older, somehow it´s so reassuring. Getting older also means more wisdom and life experience. More certainty. Getting older also makes me feel safer, even if I still don´t have a proper job yet. Even if I still have study loans to pay off. Even if I haven’t found my haven. But what I do know is what I want. It’s so clear to me now, and it´s filled with passion.
A trip around the chateau forest
Yesterday I listened to another episode of «The school of greatness» with Lewis Howes, starring Dean Graziosi. I absolutely loved the episode, and something that really came to heart was the conversation about the «7 Levels deep». Basically, it´s all about discovering why you really want to become what you want to become in life. Why you have the goals that you have. Try this link, it´s a website that allows you to do the exercise. While I was listening to the episode and the conversation that Dean and Lewis were having I just started realising my inner truths about why I want the things that I want. What drives me to move towards my dreams. It made me cry, and it still does when I think about it, and it´s far to complicated to tell you all now, but it reminded me of the little girl I once used to be. The little girl who saw her father drunk too many times, a father who was picked up by the police far to much. The little girl who wanted more then what her family could ever give her. So, with a lot of love and ambition, I know now why I want the things that I want. I want to aim high and be successful in every way that I can so I can save that little girl. The little girl is me, but also children who needs help. One day I want to study pedology, and I want to create a sanctuary for kids in need. That being a children home or a school, who knows what the future beholds. The only thing I know is that I want to save children.
My dearest Ruby
Right, enough deep stuff. David is back at Lalande, and he is cooking tonight. YAY. There is dinner, lots of cheese and hopefully a cocktail or two. I´m staying up late!
This year’s Easter Party is now over at Lalande, but what a party we had. Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes, and people were dancing all night. My superhero outfit was a healer, I was «Iben» from Sweeden. Hehe. I had a hillarious and fun evening, so much fun and lots of people. I loved the dinner, the dancing I unfortunatley missed by falling a sleep.. Haha.
Here are some pictures from the party:
Dana, me, Nati, Mary and Heather
My superhero outfit. I found this vintage summer dress in Emmaus, and I hand sewed fresh flowers onto it. I love the natural and «pure» style.
Chocolate for the Easter egg hunt
Stephanie getting ready for the party
I had so much fun this weekend, and I really enjoyed having the whole chateau filled with people. I thought I would be a little bit stressed with all the work, but everyone has been super helpful. I´m definelty coming back next year.
A few of the guests have already left, but some are staying a few more days. The decorations have already been taken down by a superforced team. Bedrooms have been cleaned, and sheets washed and ironed. All is well at Lalande, and the B&B guests for tomorrow can safely arrive at the chateau without finding pyramids of toilet rolls in the stairwell.
I´m spending the rest of the evening just relaxing, my body can still feel the fun of 3 days of partying. Haha.
It´s looking so warm and bloomy in the chateau now, decorations are coming along. The house is almost full, and the last guests will arrive tonight. I love having lots of people around the chateau, it´s a lovely feeling. Since we have a Superhero theme party this year, everyone has to come as a superhero or a supervillain tonight. We also started a game last night, i think it´s similar to «Vampires and Villagers». It´s a game about staying alive (i think..), and so far I haven´t been killed. Haha! I´ll keep you all updated.
Here are a few pictures of the house right now:
We wanted the Grand Salon to look like a magical galaxy where only superheroes live. The Winter Salon will be the dark planet who are hosting all the supervillains. Stephanie ordered a lot of wisteria from Amazon, and they are now hanging in the beams in the Grand Salon. I usually have no great interest in using fake flowers (being a florist), but these do look pretty amazing. I can´t wait for the big party tonight.
The entrance hall
I made a few flower arrangments yesterday, and I just love the colour palettes. Bluebells, lilac and greens. I found a lot of empty glass bottles and old jars lying around. After washing them and filling them with cold water, they were ready to be used. I love re-using stuff. It´s so heavenly to have such a big collection of vases in the house. Thank you, Stephanie!
A cup of tea and loud music while making the arrangments is essential
The two big tables are now covered with white linen tablecloths, and it´s almost looking a bit summerly in the entrance hall. Tonight we will have a 3-course meal served by Dana and Jodi. I´m so excited, especially about the chocolate dipped strawberries we´re having for dessert. Yummy!

I thought I would update you all on the Lalande front. Yesterday, we had a lovely dinner party together with our 2 B&B guests, Sarah and Steve. The couple was on holiday in France, coming from the UK. It was Sarah´s 50s birthday-week, so we had 2 bottles of Champagne, olives and cheese and of course a delicious main course. I made a turkish aubergine and chicken stew for them. I also made a smoked sweet potato dip and Hummus. Yummy! Stephanie came back from London just in time for dinner. We were a fun mix around the table, also accompanied by Heather and Osman. We had lots of laughs and talked about anything from DIY projects to tantra courses. You know, there is no filter when there is Champagne involved.
The birthday girl, Sarah, bought me this beautiful robe yesterday! I was so surprised by the gift but it made me incredibly happy. The best gifts are the ones you don´t expect, and for me who loves robes more than anything, it was the highlight of the day. Thank you so much, Sarah, you are an utter sweetheart.
I love that Stephanie is back in the house. We have lots to do, especially with the Easter party coming up but also because filming days are approaching. Tomorrow, Stephanie and I are going to do some scavage hunting in Bourges. We need to get some furniture for one of the bedrooms we are redecorating.
I’m really looking forward to the trip, it´s always a delight to spend time with Stephanie.
Today I´ve done breakfast for the guests while also doing some final laundry before all our friends are coming. Getting all 19 bedrooms ready is not done in a few hours, I’ll tell you that.. Right, I have to get ready for dinner. Stephanie and I are visiting Dana and Arno tonight, they have invited us for a small dinner party.
Today, we are expecting a couple for a one night stay at Lalande. They asked for a bottle of Champagne and dinner, which they will of course have. It´s always a joy to compose a 3-course meal for our guests, I can’t wait to use the vegetables from our garden. If you enjoy cooking like me, you would love cooking at Lalande.
Today’s guests are staying in the so-called «honeymoon» suite, the room is called Bonne Maman, and this is a bright, spacious and stunning room. «Bonne Maman» means grandmother in French and this was the bedroom belonging to the Marquise. This room is located in the 15th-century wing of the chateau.
Here are a few pictures of the room:
I arranged some quick flowers for the guest’s bedroom today. I don´t always get the chance to do it every day, but I do try as often as I can. I´m over the moon thrilled about the early spring here at Lalande, every trip to the garden is like a treasure hunt. Love spring.
The suite bathroom, the wallpaper is by Lewis & Wood. There is a separate shower and an original art deco cast iron bath.
Flowers from the garden
I adore this 50s dressing table, bought by Stephanie on an auction in London.
The bed and the bedside tables in the suite also used to belong to the Marquise
The wall fabric and curtains are silk from Sudbury Silk Factories in England.
champagne and flowers
Well, I better head to the kitchen and start preparing tonights dinner. I think I will do a sensual clementine carpaccio with a fresh mint sauce as a starter. The main course will be a honey roasted chicken with a creamy butter sauce and blue potatoes. For dessert, I will be a cheezy romantic and serve strawberries dipped in chocolate. Easy peasy but delish!
I hope you all have a great afternoon.
April is finally here, my favourite month of the year. Not because it´s my birthday month (haha), but because spring is finally arriving. I´m sitting in Stephanie’s study and gazing towards the view outside. It’s so ridiculous beautiful here, and it´s also getting greener and greener for every day that passes. We just had a weekend with sunny weather and over 2o degrees, omg! I feel so blessed, especially since I know there is still a lot of places covered with snow in Norway.
In a few weeks, the whole house will be filled with people again, I really can’t wait. Parties at Lalande is not a dull thing, especially when there is a theme. As some of you might know, this year’s Easter party will be a «Superhero party». We all have to create our own superpower, make up our alter ego and decide on which side we want to be on. The organisation is coming along, and I know for sure that the whole Chateau will be full. How fun is that?? I´m still thinking about my superhero power and what outfit to go for. The florist in me says that I should go out in the forest and make myself an epic «poison ivy» outfit. I might actually do that!
Exciting times ahead.
Uff, unnskyld! Uansett, over til noe annet! Hehe.
Hvordan er livet på Chateauet om dagen? – Ganske fint, våren er her!
// How’s Chateau life? – Chateau life is pretty good, especially since spring is here! I´m beyond grateful to be able to walk around with bare feets and summer dresses. The early spring in France really makes up for the cold Lofoten summer I had last year.
Hvordan går treningsprogrammet? – Haha!
// How’s your workout program going? – Haha. I´ve just finished 1 week, but it´s going rather well. I´m not a top athlete (yet), but I have noticed that my body is enjoying the exercises. I loved today’s workout, I had more intervals and it was pretty though, but also rewarding. It feels good to be back at it.
// Do you eat healthy all the time? – Well, I do eat a lot of healthy meals. It´s usually about 2-3 meals a day. Sometimes I have a piece of chocolate with my coffee. I´ve also gone down on my coffee drinking, it´s actually a bit insane. I usually just have 1 cup a day, last summer I could drink as much as 6-7 cups a day. Anyhow, yes, I do eat a lot of healthy meals and that feels pretty good.
Har du tenkt til å studere igjen? – Ja!
// Have you thought about studying again? – Yes! I really want to study one more time, but I also don´t want to be the eternal drop-out student. I haven´t succseeded so far with higer education, but I would love to study pedagody one day.
// What is the best about living at «Lalande? – The closness to nature, the animals, the more warm climate. All the fantastic people who live and visit Lalande. The costume parties.
Stresser du om dagen? – Stresser? Haah.
// Anything troubling your mind? – Not much, but I do stress a little bit about the room arrangments for the Easter party. It´s my job to make sure everyone has a room to sleep in, but it´s not that easy. Some people are very flexible while others are not. I do hope I find a solution that makes everyone happy.
Hva ser du frem til? – Joanna!
// What are you looking forward to? – Joanna! She is coming to the chateau next week and I´m so excited to see her again. I haven´t seen her since September last year. Thats too long. I´m also longing for warm summer nights and a nice tan. I´m also looking forward to having a more normal lifestyle and a proper job (after summer).
Gillian and I had a day out yesterday! We started early with a workout at 08.30am, followed by a good breakfast (porridge of course). After breakfast, we took the Jaguar to Limoges. Gillian had to catch a flight in the afternoon and I was going to pick up another workawayer. We thought we might as well go out for a coffee and do a little bit of shopping. We both ended up getting a few things. I found some pretty summer dresses at Zara that I cant wait to wear! Let’s have summer now, please.
We also got some take away coffee, you know, when in a city! Haha
When in France..
Some of the dresses I found at Zara
Today is just a normal day at Lalande. The sun is shining outside, I feel like summer is around the corner. We now have to new workawayers here. Feels good to be more people doing work around here, somehow the achievements feel bigger, hehe. I still have a ton of laundry to do after the birthday party. I better get started. I´m actually looking forward to spending the day doing laundry. There is something satisfying about ironing tablecloths while listening to a few podcasts.
What a weekend guys. It´s been so busy but also very exciting! As you might know, we had a 70th birthday party here this weekend. All the bedrooms have been occupied by guests and we have been cooking dinner for over 40 people! It´s been so nice to see new faces here, especially after a few quiet months. All the guests have now left and I´ve used Sunday and Monday to recover. I´ve been so tired. It´s been so long since I´ve worked in a high tempo like this, the days have been long. I finally feel whole again and that’s nice. I´ve spent Monday on just relaxing. I´ve also managed to get back in my old room properly. I´ve been living in the guardian house with Mikkel and Gillian since last Tuesday. Mikkel has now left the chateau and gone home to Copenhagen, things are slightly coming back to normal. It’s been so nice to be able to speak Norwegian again, I even felt out of practice.
I´m so hooked on porridge with clementines these days. I make new and colourful portions almost every day. My favourite is with clementines, coconut, almonds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, cranberries and pomegranate.
Serien «Escape to the Chateau DIY» vises i disse dager på channel 4, fra man-fre kl. 18.00 UK time.
We have been having fresh mint in this house lately, I love fresh mint tea. I think it´s the best warm drink I can drink these days. I´m really looking forward to having fully grown mint in the greenhouse.
Today is the day that Chateau de la lande is on tv! Yay! The series «Escape to the Chateau DIY» is sending these days on Channel 4, from Mon-Fri from 6pm, Uk time. It´s going to be so excited to see the episodes featuring our chateau.
Nesten litt sommerlig!
It was the right decision to start writing in Norwegian again, I could feel it straight away. Also, very good to get comments on my last post and my ass too. Thank you very much! Haha.
Today has been such a lovely Sunday. I´ve been working around the house, there are 30-40 people coming next weekend! Mikkel, a new handsome workawayer from Denmark has arrived today. So fun to see a new face around here, unfortunately, he is just here for a short week. Though a few extra hands are always handy when doing party preparations!
I just watched 3 episodes of «71 grader Nord», I can’t stop when I know I have many episodes to watch. I haven´t seen the last season. Hehe! Tomorrow, Stephanie is coming home and I´m really looking forward to seeing her face again. Her presence lights up the darkest rooms, not that it´s so dark here though.
Not much more to say today. I hope you all are ready for Monday!
We delived Graham (Gillian’s date) to the airport today, and after Gillian and I had a lovely walk around Limoges city centre. I´ve been feeling very «left out» from civilisation lately. Just walking around in a vibrant city did a lot of magic. I got a few essentials and I somehow feel so much better! I do love living in the countryside, but it can also be a little bit closed off. Our day out was a proper energy boost. Thank you Gillian.
Pink and white blossoms everywhere
You know you haven´t been out for a while when you get ridiculous excited about a takeaway coffee. Gillian bought me a long wanted coffee while I was inside of Zara. You have no idea how much I´ve missed a big latte in a takeaway cup. In the area around the chateau there are no proper coffee shops, or well, it´s not that the French don´t drink coffee, they just like sitting down doing it. Also, the coffee is served as a tiny espresso. If you want milk, it´s usually served cold. Haha. I know that I`m a bit strange, but walking around in the streets with a takeaway coffee is one of my favourite things to do.
Tomorrow awaits another busy day. Michael and Ruth are here and it feels nice to have more people filling the house. I will spend most of the day tidying the attic. Next week we will have more than 30-40 people here. Everything needs to look tidy and organised (after my opinion). I´m also hoping there will be some blossoms outside before the guests arrive. Wouldn´t it be nice to have a vase of flowers in every bedroom? I hope I have the time for it.
2. What do you plan to do after your stay at the chateau?
My plan after Lalande is to go back to my original plan, go back to Norwich. I really really like the city and I would love to settle down there, well, at least for a little while. The city is very young and urban, mostly because of the university there. There is much to do, many places to go. New people to meet.
5. What do you like the most about living in France?
The obsession with cheese and wine. Being able to learn about a new culture and picking up a new language (slowly learning). I also like that people in this area see the importance of using their local’s shops. Plus, wine is really cheap here!
6. Anything you don´t like about living in France?
It might just be a local thing, but everyone seems to have a midday break here, it´s usually from 12:00-14:30pm. I find it hard to get used to and I always forget the opening hours. Another thing is the paperwork, there is so much paperwork. It´s insane. I work as an extra kitchen assistant at the local restaurant and I had to sign so many papers, and still, there is probably more to come.
7. Have you ever been to Australia and if not is it in your plans one day?
It´s been on my places to go for a long time. I have a friend, or I had a friend in Brisbane, that I meant to pay a visit. I just need to save up some money and get rid of my fear of snakes and sharks. Haha! I really want to go to Australia and New Zealand though, love a good Australian sauvignon blanc.
8. Would you come an live with me (Donna) if I bought a farm in Italy?
Hell yes!. Life is to short to not experience the Italian countryside.
9. What do you look most forward to in life?
Creating a family and settling down. Finding love and being loved.
10. Do you miss working in a flower shop?
Not really, but I do miss working with flowers. I would love to work with flowers in a different way. The flower-shop life is not for me, or at least not right now.
